Oldies

I came across some pictures of Kaelin was she was a baby.

Kaelin's first Christmas (she was about 7 months old). She is sitting on her favorite blanket. The blanket looks so nice in these pictures. I will have to post what it looks like now. It is in serious need of some repairs. She sleeps with the blanket every night.

Kaelin's first ice cream cone. Still a favorite of hers today. She was wearing Christmas clothes, so I am hoping it was Christmas time- which would make her about 7 months old.

Kaelin's first day of school. She really was happy, even though you can not tell from the pictures. She was about 15 months old.

This picture just cracks me up- I don't know what she is doing but I would guess that she is between 15 & 18 months old. She just looks so darn silly.

Funny Things from a Funny Girl

Kaelin just cracks me up. She is probably one of the funniest kids I know. She spends a lot of time thinking about things, which always results in funny comments.

Kaelin has been obsessed with the way Todd and I got married lately. She has asked a million questions.

"Did Daddy give me a ring?"

"Did I wear a long dress?"

Today's question was the best "When you met dad, did you hold his hand and say will you be my baby's daddy?"-- I was cracking up laughing.

Other funnies...

Todd had to fish out baby doll hats from the toilet this morning. Why... we have no idea. We have asked Kaelin several times and she has offered no explanation.

Back to work...

I no longer get a summer break (some vacation- but NO break) and now Todd's has come to an end as well.

He has had a great time this summer with Kaelin. This is the first time he and Kaelin have gotten to spend this much alone time together. It has been great for both of them, but I need to get some alone time with her because she was seriously beginning to become a "daddy's girl", when she has always been a "momma's girl".

I am glad they had so much time together (but I sure would have liked to join in on the fun myself).

One of the funniest things about Todd being off all summer...

Kaelin told everyone that her daddy did not have a job and he stayed home with her all day while her mommy went to work. It was hilarious. Todd kept telling her that he was just on summer break, but that really meant nothing to her so she kept telling her story the way she saw it. I laughed so hard- Todd did not.

River Trip

We just returned from spending 5 days at the river. It was a fun and relaxing time... even for a pregnant lady.

We left last Wednesday and got back Sunday night. We had a pretty large crew, which made it even more fun.

Pawpaw
Elfi
Todd
Me
Kaelin
Trip
Lisa
Terry
Bryson
Addison
Kelly
Brian
Zachary
Hailey
+ 2 dogs and a bird

You can see with a crowd this size, you are just bound to end up having fun (or losing your mind). I think I did a little of both.

We set up a blow up swimming pool at our campsite. I really think the kids had more fun in it than they did in the river. It was too funny. Really... how many inflatables can you get in a blow up swimming pool???? (Trip, Kaelin, Addison, and Hailey)

Kaelin is having a lunchable at the river. It was so hot and so sunny that I am sure the cheese was melting faster than she could eat it.

Of course, Moe managed to convince us that he would make a good river dog. So, this is Kaelin and Moe making one of their many trips to the river. (Moe slept the whole way home and all day Monday- he may be rethinking his willingness to return to the river anytime soon).

The Dentist

We finally took Kaelin to the dentist.

She had been begging to go to the dentist (yes, I thought this was odd too). Kaelin loves to talk to the doctors. She is such a great patient. Everytime we take her to the doctor, dentist, etc, the doctors always comment on how great she is because most kids just cry the entire time they are in there. Not Kaelin, she is too busy talking to the doctors to even have time to think about crying.

After we left the dentist office, I think it was Todd and I who felt like crying. They told us she had two cavities that needed to be fixed and then two other teeth that had some weak areas that would need to be fixed as well.

We brush her teeth and rarely let her eat candy, but I guess those precautions were not enough.

So, fixing 4 teeth will cost us $500 (that is only our portion- it is actually much higher). Do you know how many pairs of shoes Kaelin and I can buy with that money? I am in the wrong business. I need to learn how to fix teeth for a living.

Typical Summer Day

This is a perfect picture of one of Kaelin's summer days. She plays until she just can't play anymore. She wakes up and immediately puts on a swimsuit (even if it is raining or we have absolutely no plans on going to the pool). Her trips to the pool usually end with her crashing in the car on the way home (the pool is only about 1/2 mile from our house).

4th of July in the Neighborhood

Our neighorhood had a 4th of July celebration. There were fireworks, clowns (but we stayed far away from them), balloon animals, face painting, hot dogs, a DJ, and lots of other fun things.

I just love this picture. Kaelin LOVES her daddy.

Kaelin decided to show us some of what she had learned in gymnastics and dance.

This was more of what she learned in gymnastics and dance (I am beginning to wonder if we are spending our money wisely- she spent most of the time rolling in the grass- too funny).

Aunt Debbie and Uncle Truman showed up before the fireworks started. Aunt Debbie stood in the face painting and balloon animal line with Kaelin. Of course, Kaelin got a butterfly painted on her face.

When I grow up...

Kaelin is a deep thinker. She hears something and it must just go into the back of her mind because she is always bringing up random thoughts. They usually make me just die laughing because you can tell how much thought she has put into what she is saying.

The other day, Todd, Kaelin and I were riding in the truck. Out of no where, Kaelin says "Mom, I want to go to college in Crosby" (For anyone that knows Crosby, there is no college and if there were a college, it would not be one that I would want for her to attend).

I say "Kaelin, there is not a college in Crosby".

She says "Well, I just don't want to move away from our house in Crosby" (So- this was the real reason for the random comment- she doesn't want to leave her mommy and daddy... how sweet)

I say "What if you pick your college and Dad and I move to where ever you are going to live?"

She gets very excited and says "Yes, that would work" (That will probably change by the time she is actually in college- but I am going to hold her to letting us live with her at college)

Continuing the conversation on college, I ask "What do you want to be when you go to college?"

She says "I have been thinking about that. I can be a doctor or a teacher, but what I really want to be is a butterfly". (I am trying not to laugh to hard because I don't want her to think I am making fun of her or trying to hurt her feelings, but how darn cute is that... )

The story does not end there... I told you she was a deep thinker.

Several days later (out of no where)

Kaelin says "Mom, I have been thinking."

I say "about what?"

She says "Well, when I grow up, I think I might want to be a mermaid rather than a butterfly."

I say "Why is that?"

She says "I think it is going to be easier to turn into a mermaid rather than a butterfly. To be a mermaid, you just get into the water and put your feet together and start flapping them, then they will turn into a mermaid tail. Growing wings and flying is a little bit harder". (That is some deep thoughts- this must have been on her mind for days).

So for now, we are on track to grow up and become a mermaid. I will let you know if that changes.
