When you really should not laugh

A couple of things happened tonight that made me laugh when I really should not have laughed. You know the things I am talking about. When a child does something they really should not be doing or the way they do it is just too darn funny to contain yourself.
1. Kaelin was on the couch and Todd thought she petting his head... but that was not at all what she was doing. Little Miss Priss had chapstick out and was wiping it all in Todd's hair. (I am laughing right now just trying to type this). She was just too darn funny that I had to just laugh out loud. Shame on me... Todd was so made when he realized what she was doing. He had chapstick all over his hair. That has to be hard to wash out.

and for my second funny moment (remember... I am sleep deprived from working on the testing at work, so funny to me may not really be funny at all)

2. Todd took Kaelin upstairs to get her pajamas on. He got her a pair of pajama bottoms, but the top that goes to them was dirty. So he just got another pajama top. Sounds like now big deal... right? Not to Kaelin. He just shook the fashion diva's world. He truly thought she was going to sleep in something that did not match. We know that is not going to happen (and it didn't). I heard Kaelin crying upstairs, but I could not hear what was going on. She finally came running down the stairs just crying hysterically (real tears). She said "Mom, look at me, I don't match" (and she didn't) "I can't sleep like this". I started laughing... shame on me. Now Kaelin thought I was laughing at her (and I was) which made her cry even more. So now, through my own tears from laughing so hard, I had to explain to her that I would go upstairs with her and we would find some pajamas that matched. She finally stopped crying... I stopped laughing... and we are now off to get some matching pajamas so she does not have to go to sleep not being fashionably coordinated. Have I created a monster? (Rhetorical question, so no answer needed).

TAKS...TAKSing...TAKSed

For those of you having anything to do with education or having access to a television, you know what the title of this post is referring to. Next week is the TAKS test and I am all TAKSed out. I have probably had about 12 hours of sleep since Sunday night and I think I finally hit the delirious stage a little earlier this evening.
Kaelin has been through several TAKS test administrations with me. She wants to be such a good helper, but sorting through all of my alphabetized sheets of paper might not have been the best way for her to help. I am going to have to find some things for her to do, so she will feel like she is helping.
Hopefully this weekend, I will catch up on a little needed rest and then Kaelin, Todd, and I can hang out at the house and maybe find something fun to do. Kaelin has been feeling a little left out this week. She is used to me being able to play with her every afternoon when I get home. But this week, playtime has involved bringing the laptop on the back porch and begging her to not spill the bubbles on mommy's computer. Not a fun week, but it is almost over.

A Field Trip with Daddy

Todd got go on his first field trip with Kaelin today. They went to a bouncy house. They have both been grinning from ear-to-ear since I got home. I have come to the conclusion that the day was a success for both of them. I usually get to take Kaelin on her field trips and attend her school parties. But, due to the upcoming TAKS test, I was not able to take off of work. Daddy filled in and I think he might have enjoyed the day just as much as Kaelin. He got to spend time with her and see her play with her friends. I know Kaelin really enjoyed getting to spend some alone time with her Daddy. After looking at the last picture, you can decide for yourself whether she had a good time or not.

One of my favorite things about children (especially 2 year olds) is their ability to play using every last ounce of energy they have (plus the energy of all of the adults around them). The pure excitement and enjoyment a child is able to exhibit is often breath taking. I often wish I could play and enjoy life like a child. To live without a care in the world and spend every valuable second of the day doing things you love.

Save The Date

Mark your calendars for May 16!!!
The carnival is coming to our backyard. You may think we live in a three ring circus everyday, but you will be convinced of that after the party. We are going to have everything carnival related (that our homeowners association will allow - so no lions, tigers, bears, or elephants)Kaelin will be turning 3!!!

We will have a super fun birthday party with lots of games, great food, and a good time for all.

Can you believe Kaelin is going to be 3?

If you are ever in need of cute invitations, address labels, stationary, thank you notes, etc, I use a great company called "A Touch of Whimsy". Kristen turned me on to them and I have ordered several things from them. Great customer service and speedy delivery. http://www.atouchofwhimsyshoppe.com/ .

Chili and cheese behind the knees

I am sure everyone has seen a baby when they learn to eat baby food. You look at the baby and wonder if any of the food even made it into the baby's mouth.
We had one of those nights tonight, but our baby is almost three. We went to Aunt Debbie and Uncle Truman's house for chili cheese dogs. One of Kaelin's favorite food groups is the "dog" food group which consists of hot dogs, corn dogs, chili dogs, and anything else that might be able to be lumped into this overly healthy category. I looked over at Kaelin and she had chili and cheese all over her face. When I say all over her face, I mean in her nose, on her forehead, and I am sure some has even made its way to her hair. She got up from the table and there was chili on her legs and behind her knee. I can almost understand the chili on the leg, but behind the knee is still puzzling too me. She was so messy but it was evident that she was absolutely loving every bite.

Drag Racing in the Yard

I have always had a theory that you are born with the "white trash/redneck" gene. I don't have any scientific studies to back my theory, but I do have several real life examples to support it. Last night, Kaelin was in the backyard playing drag racing. She called me out there to be her audience.

She said "Mommy, put your ear plugs in, it is going to be loud".

I said "what are you doing?"

She said "I am playing drag racing and I am Ashley".

For those of you that do not have the "white trash/redneck" gene, she was referring to funny car driver Ashley Force Hood (John Force's daughter).

It was too funny. She drove around the back patio until it got too dark to see.

Easter on the farm

We spent Easter weekend in Corsicana with Kay and Bill. Charley and Trish came down from Alabama, so it was an extra special weekend. Kaelin got to dye Easter eggs. Kaelin did not really understand why eggs should be dyed colors other than pink. I really had to agree with her. There is no rule that says all of your Easter eggs should not be pink. I am going to keep that in mind for next year. I will start shopping the clearance bins now, so I can stock up on all of the pink Easter egg dye.

Due to the monsoon type rain that came through on Easter Sunday, she had to hunt Easter eggs in the living room. Who cares where you have to hunt them... Anyone that knows Kaelin knows that she is a shoe hound. She loves shoes, owns tons of shoes, will sacrifice candy and toys for new shoes. This was hilarious... Kaelin told me she wanted the Easter bunny to bring her a basket of shoes. A girl after my own heart. Luckily, the Easter bunny was able to find some last minute shoes to add to her basket.

Kaelin's eggs were filled with miniature nail polish, lip gloss, finger/toe nail stickers, and then some had candy in them. She had so much fun. Then of course we had to paint finger and toe nails once all of the egg hunting was done.

Easter Party at School

Today is Kaelin's Easter party at school. It should be quite an adventure. She got all of her Easter eggs out last night. She played with them for hours. She took them to jump on the trampoline and then they came back inside to play. She kept telling me they were "catching". She meant they were hatching. I thought that was so cute.

Kaelin had an absolute blast at her party. She kept insisting that I take her picture while she spins around. Spinning around and taking pictures don't go together so well. Most of the pictures came out blurry, but I got a few good ones.
