Wardrobe Change

This is just a downright funny story that I will repeat at Kaelin's graduation, wedding, and any other function that calls for a funny Kaelin story.

This happened about 6 weeks ago, so I am a little slow getting around to posting it, but it is sooooo worth sharing.

Shortly after the start of kindergarten, Kaelin came home with a little bag of her clothes and a note that said she had an accident in her pants at school.

I always send a little bag of clothes in Kaelin's backpack, just in case she gets dirty - or has an accident.

So, Kaelin and I talked about the accident. No big deal. Right?????

I was thinking, new school, new rules, she just must not have down potty routine yet.

So... about one week later...

Another bag... another note...

Kaelin and I talk AGAIN... I give her the whole "you don't want to be the kid that pee's in her pants at school" story.

I think I got through to her...

A couple more days go by...

ANOTHER BAG.... ANOTHER NOTE

REALLY... this time Kaelin and I talk, but there is not "oh it is okay... accidents happen..." mess. This time I mean business. What is going on???

Kaelin's response "Well... I just needed to go and I could not make it".

A few more days go by...

ANOTHER BAG... ANOTHER NOTE

Another talk, but this time with Dad.... This talk does not go the way Kaelin thinks it is going to go. He has no sympathy. He tells her there will be NO BAG... NO NOTE. She seemed to understand... so we thought...

A few more days go by....

I go up to Kaelin's school to surprise her for lunch. As soon as I checked into the office and walked around the corner, I ran into Kaelin... with a bag of clothes in her hand. She was going to the nurse.

Kaelin had a deer in headlights look on her face.

BUSTED...

I go into the nurses office with her to find out what is going on. Is she not being allowed to go to the bathroom???? Is she nervous???? Is she scared to ask????

I was determined to get to the bottom of it.

The nurse and I talk for a little bit. We try to figure out if there is a time pattern to her coming in. In the mean time, I send Kaelin to the bathroom. I tell her to just change her panties. She tells me no that she needs to change her whole outfit. I say "no, just your panties".

The nurse and I talk a little more.

I then go into the bathroom to help Kaelin. She has not changed one thing. She looks like she is about to cry.

I said "what is wrong".

She says "I need to change my clothes because I might get hot on the playground."

DING DING DING...

The light bulb in my head goes off.

I felt her panties... DRY as when she put them on after her bath.

I feel my face getting hot. My blood was beginning to boil. But part of me was relieved.

I said "Kaelin, you did not wet your pants. Why did you come to the nurses office?"

She suddenly realizes she has been figured out.

She says "Well, I might have wet my pants." What... might have wet your pants... like if you did not go to the bathroom all day, you might have wet your pants... Really... this was the response I got.

I said "Kaelin, you are not changing clothes. Have you been wetting your pants at school or just changing your clothes?"

No response.

I already knew the answer.

Kaelin had found a way to have a wardrobe change during the middle of the day.

I walk her back to lunch and we talk about this situation a little more.

I said "Kaelin, all of the kids in your room think you have been wetting your pants. What do you think they think about that? They are going to make fun of you."

She says "Oh mom, they don't care, they don't make fun of me". So, I am wondering if they knew her game all along or if they truly just did not care.

After lunch, I walk her back to her room and I talk to her teacher. I tell her teacher about meeting her on the way to the nurse. I tell the teacher the little game Kaelin has been playing. Her teacher said she was beginning to think something like that might be occurring.

When I left the school, I called Todd. I explained the situation to him. By this time, I was beginning to find some humor in it. Todd found NO humor in it at all. In fact, I thought he was going to leave work, come check Kaelin out of school, and give her a piece of his mind.

So... she has not come home with any more bags of clothes and no more notes from the nurse.

No more wardrobe changes for the little diva.

Super Star

Kaelin got to participate in an exciting dance program a few weeks ago. The Crosby High School dance team held a clinic for the school age girls to participate in. They spent a Saturday learning some dance moves. They also learned a routine that would be performed during the next Friday night Crosby football game.

Well... this was right up Kaelin's alley.

Dancing... with the big girls... Performing... in front of a crowd...

LOVE IT!!! LOVE IT!!!!

Kaelin at her Saturday dance rehearsal

Miss Sassy pants getting ready to perform

She is trying hard to pay attention, but that might be short lived. The excitement was just about to get to her.

Group photo- they all seem to be wiggling in my picture because my lack of photo taking skills kicked in. I took several great pictures - no flash-. Then I realized the err of my ways and this was the best I could do before the natives became too restless.

Of course, she could only sit for so long. Kaelin began doing cartwheels.

and round offs

and any other gymnastics move she could perform before going to do her dance.

Softball Time Again

We just finished fall softball. It was extremely entertaining. Kaelin is getting pretty good. She actually understands the game now. She is doing a lot less "flower picking" and a lot more chasing the ball.

Get ready #2. You are up to bat.

Look at those dirty knees. It is really not necessary to slide to the base at this age, but Kaelin does not understand that. So, Mom has to wash laundry after every game, just so she can have clean pants at the next game.

Coach Dad must have been giving her some pointers.

Next to snack time after each game, receiving trophies was probably Kaelin's favorite part.

Coach Dad and my sweet little #2

Although we had a great time during fall ball, I am relieved to have two evenings free. It is nice to get to come home and know that I don't have to immediately throw everything in the car and head up to the ball park.

Spring Ball will be here before I know it, so I better enjoy the break while I can.

Zoo Party

A few weeks ago, we went to a SUPER fun birthday party at the zoo. Kaelin's cousin, Aiden, was turning 7. Kaelin had a fabulous time. We had to do a little party hopping that weekend. We went to one party, stayed for about 45 minutes, headed to the zoo for Aiden's party, then ended up at another party on Sunday. The social life of a 5 year old will absolutely wear you out.

My little gopher

Macie and Gavin had fun rolling around on the floor. Although Gavin does not look near as excited as Macie. Gavin is probably thinking "who is this crazy baby with the big bow in her hair and why is she so close to me flinging those arms in my face?"

Girls Weekend

Prior to the start of kindergarten, we decided to take a "girl's weekend". So, Aunt Debbie, Mamaw, Kaelin, Macie and I got a hotel room in Houston (near the Galleria). We spent the weekend taking Kaelin school shopping and doing some fun things with her before she had to go to school.

Macie just hung out in her stroller as she watched her incredibly silly sister ice skate.

Kaelin and I did a little ice skating. We were by no means ice ballerinas, but we only fell once or twice, which is not too bad.

My silly girls in the hotel room

We had such a nice, relaxing weekend. I could really use a girl weekend about once a month. It was nice to have someone else make my bed and clean my room and even cook me breakfast. I know both of my girls enjoyed the outing as well. I look forward to our next adventure.

First Day of School "After Party"

Holding true to form around our house, we had a "first day of kindergarten- after party". Any excuse to have a little party and the Hicks' house is all over it.

Didn't you get an after party on your first day of school?

We celebrated with some of Kaelin's favorite foods for dinner, followed by cupcakes and a few cards and presents.

Card #1 from Mommy and Daddy telling her how proud we are about her being a big kindergartener

Followed by some Rock Star pajamas (which proved to be very handy for our exhausted kindergarteners first day of school)

Aunt Debbie and Uncle Truman got her a very stylish tee shirt and some sour straws (candy that is only loved by kids).

Happy First Day of Kindergarten- we love you and are so proud of you.

Funny Story: As we wrapped up the "after party", I told Kaelin that we needed to go upstairs so we could pick out her clothes for school tomorrow. She said "I go back again, already?" I laughed, she has never gone to school 5 days in a row, so this will definitely be a new concept for her.

First Day of School Pickup

I wish I had a picture of this story, but I did not have my camera with me.

After the first day of kindergarten was over, I was waiting in the car line (which is painfully long and painfully slow).

Kaelin left the house in a super cute denim dress, white shirt, and leggings.

She came out of the school with no dress on...

She still had leggings and her shirt... but no dress.

I can honestly tell you that I have never come home from work without my dress on (missing my bra on occasions, but never my dress).

When Kaelin gets in the car, I asked her where her dress was, she just grins and says it is in her backpack.

"Why is it in your backpack, did it get dirty?" I asked.

"No, it is not dirty, I just got hot, so I took it off." she responded.

"You just got hot????" I asked.

Thoughts start going through my head... did she just strip off her dress in the middle of the room... did anyone bother to tell her no, we need to leave our clothes on?

So, Kaelin and I had to have a talk on the way home from school about why it was important to leave our clothes on the entire day. I am just wondering if any other parents had to explain to their kindergartners the importance of leaving their clothes on all day at school.

Good Morning Kindergarten

This is what a kindergartner looks like as she is eating breakfast before her first day of kindergarten.

This is what a kindergartner looks like after she has gotten ready for kindergarten.

This is what a kindergartner looks like as she is getting ready to walk into the building of kindergarten.

This is what a kindergartner looks like when she is sitting in her class waiting for kindergarten to start.

I need a time machine to freeze time for just a little while. I feel like time is flying at warp speed and I am missing so much of it.

Where did five years go???

How did my child get to be a kindergartner???

Kaelin was so excited about kindergarten. She wanted her hair curly and was up super early so we would have plenty of time to fix her hair, put on the perfect clothes and then not be late.

I took the day off of work so I would have plenty of time to take her to school, walk her to class, take 1000 pictures (without crying) and then be back in the car line to pick her up once it was over. It was a great day. She was excited, I was a little sad but super excited for her. She has officially begun her educational adventure. All I wish is she is always as excited about school and learning as she was on the first day of kindergarten.

Meet The Teacher

Before kindergarten, we got to go up to Kaelin's school and meet her teacher. She was so excited that she could hardly contain herself. This was the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. I know she is going to like (and occasionally dislike) this chapter.

Kaelin's teacher is a very sweet, pretty, and young teacher. Kaelin is just going to love her.

Happy 11 Month Birthday

I know... one day she is 10 months old and the next she is 11 months old.

Trust me, it feels like time is flying at that same speed.

It is hard to believe my sweet baby is about to celebrate her 1st birthday. Where has a year gone? I truly think I must have missed a few months somewhere. If you find them, bring them back.

11 months is FUN

Macie has found some independence.

She prefers food that she can eat with her hands. She does not like for me to mash everything anymore.

She loves milk, sweet tea, and apple juice

Her favorite breakfast is a waffle torn in half

She is wearing about a size 12 month in clothes and a 3 in shoes

Macie has some chubby little feet, where as Kaelin had skinny feet

Macie has found her sister to be about the coolest thing on the planet. She loves to pest her. Anything Kaelin is doing or playing with, Macie feels the need to be directly involved. I think this is a trend that is here to stay.

Macie likes her freedom. She is trying to walk and if the walking is a little too slow, she just drops to her knees and crawls to her destination. She is the fastest crawler I have ever seen. Don't leave a door open, because she will escape before you know what happened.

Macie's hair is getting thick and long. In fact, Macie has more hair now then Kaelin had when she was two. It is funny because she still looks like a wild chicken when she wakes up in the morning.

Happy 11 Month Birthday! We love you!

Happy 10 Month Birthday

Look Who Turned 10 months old (on 9-22-11)

10 months was so exciting (and exhausting)

Macie has 3 teeth -all on the top (which is odd, but about what we would expect from Macie)

She talks non-stop (we don't know everything she is saying, but apparently she knows)

She sleeps all night (woohoo)

She wears a 9 or 12 month clothes

She is her own comedian. She will do things just to make herself laugh. It is the cutest thing.

Another fun day on the river

More Garner pictures....

We can't wait to go back again next year.

This picture was taken at a restuarant we ate at. You can see that Macie was very excited about having her picture taken with her sister.

Kaelin decided to wear her headband like Rambo rather than the way it was intended.

Kaelin and Trip swimming (in what little water there was)

Pawpaw, Todd, and Miss Macie

Daddy and Macie hanging out in the water. Macie loved the water, but got tired very quickly. (made for some great naps)

Trip trying to float down the little stream with his rock that he claimed to use as an anchor.

Finally, Trip Arrives at GSP

So, Trip finally arrived in Garner. This was a MUCH awaited... MUCH anticipated... arrival.

Kaelin and Trip

Trip taking advantage of the face painting.

Kaelin taking advantage of the face painting (again)

Scary Tigers!!!!

Mommy and her babies (I think Macie was ready to go to bed)

Macie (with sun kissed cheeks) was definitely ready to go to bed.

Seriously... I am ready for bed... get me off of the goat.

A Garner Night

Our nights in Garner were spent dancing... playing... and eating snow cones.

As well as getting our face painted (then washing it off about 30 minutes later) I just LOVE... LOVE... LOVE... this picture.

Macie hung out in her stroller, playing with her new toy (shoe). Luckily she can't walk yet, so the soles of her shoes are still perfectly clean (in an effort to try to justify why I am allowing my child to eat her shoe)

Kaelin and another little boy sat and ate snow cones together. She needs to quit trying to meet the little boys at the dance. I am not ready for that yet.

They had a couple of scooters to play on, so Kaelin took full advantage of them. It is much easier to ride with no shoes.

The Mayor Of Concan

Another part of the scavenger hunt in Garner involved finding the "Mayor of Concan" and having your picture made with him.

We searched all over for the Mayor and finally found him hanging out in this cage. (He was a rattle snake that ate mice for dinner... GROSS).

God Logic

Kaelin is very interested in talking about God, reading Bible stories, going to Sunday school, etc. I could not be more proud. She has a deep love for God, her family, friends, and I am pretty sure she has a deep love for strangers.

Last night, she was asking me what I loved most about God.
I responded "that he loves us no matter what."
She says "Yes, I like that too."

We continue this conversation for a little while longer, then she says "Did you know that you can tell God when someone is bothering you?"
I responded "Yes, I did know that and I really like that."
Kaelin says "When I am at school, I can tell God when someone is bothering me and then God goes and tells the teacher to move their clip to yellow or red."
I responded "I am not sure that is the exact way it works, but I am sure you are close."

I was about to roll on the bathroom floor, I was laughing so hard.

In kindergarten, they have a yard stick that has 3 or 4 colors on it. Then there are clothes pins with each childs name on them. You start off on green and then if you get in trouble, your clip can be moved all the way down to red.

Bat Bats Everywhere

Seriously... who pays to go see (and smell) a colony of bats...

We do...

Kaelin was performing a little song and dance on the rocks. She is quite the entertainer.

Millions of bats just swooping over our heads...

The kids were mesmerized with all of the bats.

Macie could have cared less about the bats. She eventually fell asleep in the stroller (probably due to immense boredom)

The kids loved it. We gave them a choice between going to see the bats or going on a hay ride. They wanted to do both, but eventually settled on the hay ride. We went to book the trip and it was full... so we ended up at the bats.
